Questions families ask us.

A few of the things prospective families want to know about life and learning at Annunciation. Don’t see your question? We’d love to talk.

Must our child be Catholic to attend Annunciation?

First and foremost we are a parish school, so children of participating parishioners receive the highest priority for admission. Thereafter we warmly welcome children of other faiths — families from Greek Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish, and other Christian traditions enrich our community both spiritually and globally.

How do your test scores compare with local public schools?

By law, private schools cannot use the same testing materials (Smarter Balanced) as public schools, so a direct comparison isn’t possible. All diocesan schools use the STAR Math and Reading assessments, and our students consistently score above Diocesan averages and in the upper percentiles nationally.

How do tuition and required service compare with other diocesan schools?

Our tuition is all-inclusive of fees, so any “asks” during the year are strictly optional. Other Catholic schools structure tuition differently, so a fair comparison means adding their additional costs to their published rate. Our mandatory parent service commitment is also lighter — determined by the youngest child enrolled:

  • 8 service hours for the annual Festival
  • $200 in Big Raffle ticket sales (sold November–March)

Additional volunteering with fundraisers and in the classroom is always welcome — but never mandated.

Does your curriculum align with California and Common Core standards?

Our curriculum is founded on the Diocesan Religion Standards, the California and Common Core State Standards, and our School-wide Learning Expectations. We also offer art, technology, Spanish, music, and physical education. Students enjoy:

  • a Science Lab, Computer Lab, and 1-to-1 Chromebooks in grades K–8
  • cooperative learning, hands-on activities, public speaking, dramatization, and music

What is your class size limit?

Classes in grades K–2 generally enroll 28–32 children, with aides to lower the student-teacher ratio. Grades 3–5 and junior high typically have a maximum of 35 students.
